The Tool Room Manager is responsible for delivering our pipeline of new tooling projects and manufacturing maintenance activities on-time, in full and on budget with a clear focus on safety, quality & efficiency. This position will manage a team of 6 toolmakers and will collaborate closely with a wider team of outside vendors, engineers, project managers and manufacturing teams to establish goals & priorities, execute on committed production schedules and ensure clear communication at all times. The Tool Room Manager is responsible for all budgets, accurate quoting for new projects, time recording, inventory, and outside vendor management related to the Tool Room including all associated systems and processes. Effectively manage, positively motivate, and enhance Tool Room team spirit. Drive strong performance with emphasis on safety & quality. Demonstrate accountable leadership and effective communication. Assess individuals' strengths and identify training needs Manage work activities and projects within the Tool Room to remain within committed budget and timelines (may include outsourcing of work). Participate in product / mold / secondary equipment project design teams and the development of new processing and tooling. Lead scheduling/delegation/tasking of assignments within the department to meet assigned deadlines while ensuring quality & specification requirements. Oversee purchasing & external vendor activities within department to ensure timely delivery of all purchased items. Deliver on time, within budget and per print (with supporting 3rd party documentation) Develop, Track & Report relevant KPIs on tool room performance (on time, per print, within budget, percent utilization of equipment, and others as identified) Communicate closely with and support the Tool Room and other departments, as well as outside resources for critical project updates. Provide guidance for production tooling development and manufacture, ensuring customer satisfaction and meeting assigned deadlines. Provide creativity and flexibility related to new project ideas and improvements. Organize, update, and maintain accurate and timely documentation related to projects and ISO procedures. Have budget responsibilities related to Tool Room activities/department which includes raw materials, component and other supplies. Actively participation in daily management meetings, product development reviews, and site-level performance goals. Utilize and maintain proper safety equipment and procedures. Ensure confidentiality related to (but not limited to) prototypes, future projects and ideas, and production/equipment information. Identify training needs and facilitate all training for the department. Support last minute requests from engineering and operations. Challenge the status quo and drive change to support the business Manage and maintain tooling condition database Have other management duties as needed or directed by your manager. What you will bring on the journey Education:
Bachelor's degree required.
Experience:
3 years of Team Supervisory Experience including budgetary responsibilities, Mold Maker or Tool and Die Journeyman Certification. 10 years of Mold or Die with silicone or thermoplastics material. Proven knowledge and experience related to design and fabrication of molds/tooling/fixtures/and close tolerance parts. Must be able to work within a fast paced, deadline, and high-quality oriented environment. Must posses a strong positive teamwork attitude, effectively delegating tasks and projects, and displaying excellent work ethic. Strong computer and problem-solving abilities. Ability to deliver on time, within budget and per print. Ability to increase thru put of the shop and utilization of equipment by running lights out. Ability to multitask and collaborate with other departments. Excellent with program management and scheduling systems Equipment purchasing or recommendation experience. ISO Experience, MS Project experience, and Mastercam experience. P&L responsibility for a tool shop, or department. GD&T knowledge CNC Equipment and CAD/CAM knowledge
Salary Range:
$150K -- $200K
Minimum Qualification
Industrial Engineering, Mechanical EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
